About the creation of Kids Unplugged Richard Louv, author of national bestseller Last Child in the Woods, recently coined a term to describe the lack of a child’s routine contact with nature. He calls this unwanted side-effect Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD). Irvine took Louv's idea and tried to add a positive spin by creating an event that helps families "unplug" for a day.
