Sunday, April 22, 2012
11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Please Note: Irvine will be closed from 9-11 a.m. and 4-5 p.m. on Sunday to prepare for and break down Kids Unplugged. This event is RAIN or SHINE.

Kids Unplugged, Irvine’s "get outside" initiative, encourages children and their families to literally “unplug” from video games, television and other forms of electronics to participate in activities focused on Mother Earth. At Irvine, children can:

  • make recycled crafts
  • throw seed "bombs"
  • play green games
  • take nature hikes and do other 'active' challenges
  • participate in sack races and animal bingo for prizes
  • meet the Plastic Bag Monster

It's a great way for families to celebrate Earth Day together. Bring a picnic lunch a make a day of it!

$10 per child.
Free for adults and children under 2 years old.

New this Year! Kids Unplugged Photo Contest. Get more information in our flyer. Plus, a Family Pedometer Contest! Work together to get as many steps as possible. Get more information from this flyer.

About the creation of Kids Unplugged

Richard Louv, author of national bestseller Last Child in the Woods, recently coined a term to describe the lack of a child’s routine contact with nature. He calls this unwanted side-effect Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD). Irvine took Louv's idea and tried to add a positive spin by creating an event that helps families "unplug" for a day. The popular event coincides with Earth Day and is a great opportunity to get outside.
